The Communications Section is an element within the Administration Division and serves as the vital emergency communications focal point for the City of Miami Police Department as well as the Fire Department. The Communications Section's 9-1-1 operators staff the third most active Public Safety Answering Point in the southeastern United States. Operating seven days a week, 24 hours a day, the Section has the responsibility to respond to all 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency (305) 579-6111 calls. The Section's dispatch personnel are responsible for deploying the appropriate patrol units throughout the city in response to these calls. Although the Section's focus is on the law enforcement related calls, the Section is also the initial point of contact for citizens requesting fire and emergency medical services. In these instances, the call is immediately connected to the City of Miami Fire Department emergency operators, who are located within the Section's operations center. |
