City of Miami Civil Service Examination

Orientation

Polygraph Examination: All applicants are required to take a polygraph examination. The polygraph is administered at no charge to the applicant.

Physical Agility: Applicants will be given three (3) attempts to pass in the following intervals: three (3) weeks from orientation, three (3) weeks from first (1st) attempt, and three (3) weeks from second (2nd) attempt.

The exercises comprising the Physical Agility Test include the following:

  • 300-Meter Run
  • 6-Foot Wall Climb
  • Window Entry
  • 5-Foot Chain Link Fence Climb
  • Body Drag
  • Vehicle Push
  • 1.5-Mile Run

Psychological Evaluation: All applicants are required to take a psychological examination. The psychological is administered by the department’s psychological consultant at no charge to the applicant.

Background Investigation: The applicant processing staff will conduct a thorough background for all applicants.

Personal Interview: Applicants must demonstrate their ability to effectively communicate in a structured interview process, which requires the applicant to respond to common police scenarios. Provided that the number of candidates who successfully complete the hiring process, exceeds the number of vacancies.

CONDITIONAL OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT
Toxicology Examination (Drug Screen): All applicants must submit to a toxicology examination by a company selected by the City of Miami. Toxicology screens are at the expense of the applicant. However, those who successfully pass the toxic screen will be reimbursed by the City of Miami.

Complete Medical Examination: All applicants must submit to a medical examination, which includes a stress test, by a City of Miami contracted physician. There is no charge for this physical.

Vision Requirements: 20/50 each eye, separately without corrective lenses of any kind, including contact lenses. With glasses each eye should be corrected 20/30. Depth and color perception must be within normal limits. Must meet standards on color blindness
