Police Academy Class
Police Academy Class (PAC) training is a six-month program. The training consists of State of Florida mandated courses (770 hours) that include Law, Crime Scene Investigation, Patrol Procedures, Criminal Investigations, DUI/Traffic Stops, Traffic Crash Investigations, Physical Fitness, Firearms, Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations, Patrol Procedures, Report Writing, First Aid, Communications, Defensive Tactics, Dart-Firing Stun Gun, and Human Issues.
City of Miami Police College
The basic recruit program for law enforcement officers is limited to those who pass a basic skills examination and assessment instrument, which is based on a job task analysis in accordance with Florida Statute 943.17(g). The same job analysis process is used to develop job related training and performance standards for basic recruit training. A police recruit must pass all state mandated exams for each of their high liability courses in order to graduate. After the completion of the Police Academy Class curriculum, each recruit will be required to take the State of Florida certification examination.

This program teaches the officers to always act within the boundaries of their authorities and how to uphold the recognized standards of their professional code of ethics. The law enforcement training program gives the students instruction on basic criminal justice values and ethics, defines sexual harassment and ways to avoid compromising interactions with other officers and the public. The students receive a basic understanding of the chain-of-command structure and the components of the criminal justice system.

Training Course Schedule for Police Academy Class (Class Number) to be posted at a later date.

School for Professional Development
The School for Professional Development offers specialized, advanced, and career development courses. The courses may be funded through Florida Department of Law Enforcement Region XIV Trust Fund Dollars, Entrepreneurial Funds, and other state and federal grants.

International Policing Institute
For years, police departments in the Latin America and the Caribbean region have sought assistance from the Miami Police Department to develop partnerships and facilitate training of their personnel in modern crime fighting techniques. They have also welcomed our expertise in responding to threats and emergencies that might arise in their communities.

The International Policing Institute provides police managers with the necessary training, in theory and practice, in various law enforcement concepts. The department’s subject-matter experts, many fluent in Spanish and Creole, are eager to teach their counterparts abroad with the objective that upon completion of their training program, they will be able to impart their new knowledge to officers under their supervision in their respective countries and revise policies and procedures to reflect their lessons learned.
