The Alarms Ordinance Unit is responsible for enforcing the City’s alarm ordinance requirements and promoting cooperation among alarm companies and commercial and residential alarm users. The Unit reserves the right to inspect malfunctioning alarm systems and to provide follow-up assistance to ensure corrective action when necessary.

Alarm Permit Fees

The initial cost of an alarm permit is $79.00.

Alarm permits must be renewed annually. The standard renewal fee is $26.50.

If a facility has a documented history of false alarms, the renewal fee will increase to $79.00.

All new permits, renewals, and false alarm transactions are subject to an administrative fee of $3.50.

False Alarm Service Fee Schedule
False alarms occurring within a permit year are subject to the following escalating service fees:

First and second police responses: No charge

Third police response: $52.50

Fourth police response: $105.00

Fifth police response: $157.50
-
Sixth police response: $210.00

Upon the seventh false alarm within a permit year, police response will be discontinued and the alarm user’s permit will be revoked. Reinstatement of the permit and police response services requires submission of a letter from a licensed alarm company verifying the condition of the alarm system, completion of user retraining, payment of a $157.50 reinstatement fee, and settlement of all outstanding service charges.

Government Immunity
Alarm registration does not create, nor is it intended to create, any contract, duty, or obligation—expressed or implied—regarding police response. All liability and consequential damages resulting from a failure to respond to an alarm notification are expressly disclaimed, and governmental immunity as provided by law is retained. By applying for an alarm registration, the alarm user acknowledges that police response by the Miami Police Department may be affected by factors including, but not limited to, unit availability, call priority, weather conditions, traffic conditions, emergency situations, staffing levels, and prior response history.
