COMPSTAT Support
COMPSTAT Support UnitThe COMPSTAT Support Unit is an element within the Administration Division's Information Technology Support Section. The Unit supports the Department's mission by providing timely and accurate crime statistics and crime mapping to the Department's leadership, police personnel, public and other authorized law enforcement agencies.

The COMPSTAT Support Unit provides three primary services:

  • Prepare maps, graphs, and statistics that are used in the bi-monthly COMPSTAT meetings.
  • Complete internal and private requests for maps, graphs, and statistical crime data.
  • Complete and submit the semi-annual Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) to the florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

The COMPSTAT Support Unit uses the following technologies to assist in satisfying requests for information:

  • ESRI Suite of Geographic Information System (GIS) Products. These products allow for the creation of highly customizable maps with crime data and other vital information for any geographic area of the city, including high-resolution aerial photographs.
  • Omega Group's Crimeview and Crimeview Web. These products allow for the easy creation of crime-based "pin" maps showing current and historical crime data based on simple questions such as "who, what, when, and where." The Crimeview Web Application provides the same functionality via a web page so that commanders can have immediate access to this information any time they need it.
  • Business Object's Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise Server. These products allow for the creation of high customizable statistical and other relevant reports based on information from any number of databases. This information is available on the Department's intranet website via the Report Application Server and they are customizable through parameters such as date, crime type, and area. These tools allow users to be self-reliant and have critical information made immediately available.
