Computer Support
The Computer Support Unit is an element within the Administration Division's Information Technology Support Section. The Computer Support Detail is also responsible for the design, implementation, and day-to-day operations, evaluation and purchase of the Miami Police Department’s PC based computer systems. The Computer Support Unit is also responsible for development of strategic plans to support technology-related decisions. The Unit's focus is identifying emerging technologies, information systems and networks that have law enforcement applications and conducting the required processes to acquire the appropriate technologies or systems. The Unit monitors the acquisition process and plan the integration of the new systems into the Miami Police Department. Additionally, the Unit will manage the installation and implementation of the new systems and administer the required training.

The Miami Police Department has approximately 1100 PCs and 30 servers broken down as follows:
  • 600 PCs are desktop units distributed among 19 sites in the department’s Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN-WAN). 
  • 700 Laptops are (MDCs) that are assigned to Patrol Officers and Supervisors.
