Payroll

The Payroll Unit is an element within the Administration Division's Personnel Resources Management Section. The Unit oversees and coordinates the bi-weekly payroll of the entire department. The mission of the unit is to ensure that all payroll records in the Police Department are completed accurately and processed in a timely manner. Responsibilities include the entry of regular time and overtime, generating time balances, earned and used, and ultimately payroll checks. The Payroll Unit prepares, adjusts and processes all payroll related documents such as Clothing Allowance, Training and Education Salary Incentives, Communicator Operator Training pay and more. In order to process the final payout for separated employees, the unit validates time balances to ensure accurate compensation. In addition bi-weekly and annual payroll related reports are compiled such as the Annual Salary Incentive Report provided by Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. Quarterly Audits are conducted in conjunction with the Personnel Unit to ensure employees receiving supplemental pay remain eligible. The Payroll Unit works alongside the Budget Unit regarding the compensation of overtime for Special Events and Grants awarded to the department. The unit is responsible for keeping abreast with modifications in Collective Bargaining contracts, Administrative Policies and Civil Service Rules that are pertinent to Payroll. This unit works in concurrence with several City of Miami departments (the Finance Department, Human Resources, and Risk Management) to ensure all City of Miami policies and procedures are implemented effectively for the Police Department.
