Personnel
The Personnel Unit is an element within the Administration Division's Personnel Resources Management Section. The Unit oversees and coordinates the human resources functions involving entry level hiring and promotions, performance evaluation, and records maintenance. Responsibilities include obtaining budgetary approval to fill all vacant positions; ensuring that all civilian and sworn positions are filled in accordance with established practices and procedures; generating personnel action forms to effect employee status and pay changes; maintaining accurate personnel records; oversseing the probationary process for all new hires; ensuring that all new hires serve the appropriate probationary periods, and that all other employees are evaluated at least annually. This unit also responds to a variety of public records requests and works very closely with other City of Miami departments (Department of Strategic Planning, Budgeting & Performance and the Department of Employee Relations) to implement the City of Miami policies and procedures affecting the human resources function.
