Our Mission:

Records UnitRecords Unit Functions:
The Records Unit provides comprehensive records and reporting services for the purpose of supporting the law enforcement objectives of the Miami Police Department, other bona fide law enforcement agencies and the general public in accordance with required Florida State Statutes. The Records Unit is the primary repository of police reports generated by sworn personnel of the Miami Police Department.  The Unit is an element of the Support Services Section which is a component of the Administration Division. The Records Unit  is responsible for the processing, storage, retrieval and effective management of police reports.

Court Orders:
Court ordered sealments and expunction of records are processed by the Records Unit daily.  Sealed records are not available to the public unless a court order is presented ordering the records to be unsealed.  Expunged records are destroyed upon completion of the proper procedures.

Public Reports:
The public can obtain reports from the Records Unit Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. The Records Unit is closed on Wednesdays. The following reports are available to the public:
  1. Accident Reports (Available 7-10 business days after accident occurred to persons involved only;  Available sixty days after occurrence to the public).

  3. Name Checks
Certified Copies of Incident Reports can be obtained at a cost of $1.00 per page; non-certified copies at a cost of $.15 per page; Certified Accident reports can be obtained for $10.00 and Good Conduct Letters for a cost of $10.00 each. Extensive research may result in additional charges.

Law Enforcement and Other Agencies:
The Records Unit also receives and processes public records requests from other law enforcement agencies, the military, investigative agencies and private companies such as law firms, and insurance companies. Special Project requests requiring extensive research are also processed by the Records Unit.
