Specialized Patrol
The Specialized Patrol Unit is an element of the Field Operations Division’s Specialized Operations Section. The Specialized Patrol Unit is further subdivided into two details, the Aviation Detail and the Bomb Squad Detail.
The Aviation Detail is an element within the Field Operations Division's Special Operations Section. With an overall mission designed specifically to achieve the Miami Police Department's goals as they relate to officer safety and public safety and crime reduction, the Aviation Detail provides air support to patrol and specialized elements of the Miami Police Department.
 The Bomb Squad Detail is an element within the Specialized Operations Section's Special Threat and Response Unit and is responsible for bomb and explosive disposal services throughout the City of Miami. The highly trained specialists assigned to the Bomb Squad Detail develop tailored procedures to render safe a wide range of explosive devices, including improvised explosive devices, hoax explosive devices, and the occasional "found" military explosive ordnance. Additionally, the specialists conduct post blast investigations of bombings, criminal explosions, and fire bombings. They also have the responsibility to impound any "found" commercial explosives, fireworks, along with any other explosive devices.
Due to the potentially explosive nature of clandestine laboratories the Bomb Squad Detail responds to the scene of all such labs discovered within the City of Miami, as well as any recovered chemicals commonly utilized in the processing of controlled substances.in the City of Miami. |
